MSC expands inland rail network in Australia to improve supply chain efficiency

NewsTop Right FacebookTwitterWhatsAppLinkedinEmail MSC has introduced a new inland rail solution in Australia, aiming to improve connectivity between major ports and key regional hubs while reducing reliance on road transport. The service allows customers to move containers directly from Sydney terminals to Minto, and from Melbourne terminals to inland locations including Ettamogah, Griffith and Bomen. The solution is designed to ease congestion on coastal roads and provide a more efficient logistics alternative. MSC said the expansion responds to growing demand for reliable inland transport options, helping businesses manage supply chain challenges more effectively. The rail network offers several operational advantages. It lowers delivery costs by reducing long-distance trucking requirements. It also provides direct access to containers at inland depots, simplifying the final stage of distribution. Customers benefit from a single de-hire location for all container types, which reduces administrative complexity. Faster rail transfers also help cut delays linked to port congestion and improve cargo availability. To streamline operations, customers can place a single booking covering the entire journey, using predefined port-of-discharge and delivery points. MSC manages the full transport process, removing the need to coordinate with multiple service providers. The company said the integrated solution combines its global shipping network with local expertise, ensuring reliable and predictable cargo movement from port to final destination.
