DHL Express launches AI Customs Tool for International Shipping

The company said it is the first global express carrier to integrate computer vision into a live customer booking platform. The feature lets customers photograph shipment items with a smartphone. AI then analyzes the image and generates a customs-compliant item description within seconds. Customers can review, edit, or replace the suggested description before completing the shipment. DHL targets faster customs clearance DHL said the tool will: Improve shipment data accuracy Reduce customs delays Simplify international shipping The company added that better item descriptions can help speed up customs processing and reduce shipment holds. Dirk Olufs, EVP and Global CIO at DHL Express, said cleaner shipment data improves the entire shipping process. Enna Zarate, Senior Vice President for Digital Customer Solutions, said the item description field has long been a challenge for customers shipping internationally. Feature now live in eight markets The tool is currently available in: Canada Germany Hong Kong Netherlands Singapore South Africa Spain United Arab Emirates DHL plans to expand the rollout during 2026.
